Job Description

Description The Department of Neurology is looking for a highly skilled, motivated, and attentive Staff Research Associate III (SRA 3) with a strong interest in addressing healthcare disparities in neurological diseases. Reporting to the Principal Investigator, you will be responsible for lab support tasks such as managing, hiring, and training work-study and volunteer undergraduate and graduate students, as well as training new lab members. Your role will involve applying advanced quantitative and qualitative research methods to develop and conduct research studies. You will collaborate with various lab members, providing technical support, managing inventories and lab space, and ensuring the proper training of lab helpers and students. Additionally, you will oversee the ongoing education of lab members on policies and coordinate with UCLA's IRB to uphold patient confidentiality and ensure compliance with HIPAA and other ethical standards in research with human subjects. The role also includes working closely with the fund manager to handle participant compensation, procure necessary lab equipment and software, and process reimbursements for conference attendance. Administrative responsibilities will include direct data collection and management, maintaining a database of results, documenting research procedures, data analysis and interpretation, generating figures and text for grants and publications, drafting progress reports for sponsors, and conducting literature reviews in preparation for manuscripts and grant proposals. Given the need to interact with Spanish-speaking participants, proficiency in both English and Spanish is ideal. Salary Range: $31.82 - $51.16/Hourly Qualifications Required: A minimum of a Bachelor's degree plus 1-3 years of related healthcare, public health, or community health research experience. Experience in working as part of a team and maintaining cooperative working relationships with physicians, nurses, staff, Business office, and UCLA Community Knowledge of medical terminology. Ability to track expenditures and monitor ledgers. Ability to research and resolve details pertaining to UCLA accounting matters. Ability to keep organized electronic and paper filing systems. Customer service experience to interact courteously, tactfully, and to faculty and other departmental staff. Ability to communicate effectively in spoken English & Spanish. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and diplomacy. Skill in training staff to use office machines, and existing databases. Ability to make sound judgments and decisions. Skill in setting priorities, which accurately reflect relative importance of job responsibilities. Ability to manage time and follow through on assignments with minimal direction Ability to attend to details and complete assignments within prescribed time frame despite frequent interruptions and distractions. Ability to adjust to constantly changing demands and requirements of CAO's office. Skill in using voice mail systems, FAX machine, copier, and printers. Skill in using Epic (UCLA CareConnect) Electronic Health Record System. Skill in making travel arrangements and event planning. Proficiency in spread-sheeting, database, and other office applications including such programs as Mendeley, Medline, internet search engines, Excel, Filemaker Pro, Microsoft Outlook, Adobe, REDCap, and online purchasing of office supplies Experience in Project Management, including requirements gathering, milestone tracking and management, and implementation. Experience in customer service, in writing, telephone, and in person, working with various types of people, including the public, medical professionals/executives, and vendors. Experience working with physicians and medical professionals. Experience in writing and editing, including proofreading. General working knowledge of neuroscience, neurology, epidemiology, healthcare policy, and biostatistics. Good communication skills and ability to work well with multiple individuals. Ability to maintain an organized working area. Ability to work on several projects simultaneously and to switch focus as needed. Excellent attention to detail, for accurate data entry and analysis. Good organization and time management skills. Always punctual. Ability to learn new statistical techniques and datasets, as needed. Willingness to work occasional overtime in order to meet deadlines. Ability to keep accurate and organized records of experiments, procedures, and data. Working knowledge and ability to use computers (PC, MAC, and UNIX or related operating systems), software, and related hardware. Working knowledge of bioinformatics, systems biology, and/or biostatistics. Working knowledge of community engaged research methods. Preferred: Knowledge of UCLA forms, policies and procedures relating to purchasing, accounts. receivable, and accounts payable in order to accomplish goals of the laboratory. Knowledge of basic biostatistical skills. Knowledge of qualitative skills including thematic analysis. Knowledge of Computer Programming (R or STATA preferred).
