Description

Vision is a government contractor that has a contract deal with CCSD. They have been supporting CCSD for a number of years now and just signed a new 7 year contract. Vision is responsible for supporting the entire school district in their network setup, up keep and upgrades.

Project :

Vision is supporting the entire school district. During this summer push they have a schedule of supporting 3 schools per week. The shift for the summer time is 6AM- 230PM, in efforts to work during the less HOT summer hours. When school gets back in, the shift will be 3:30PM - 11PM. There is a path for growth within the company that they are working diligently on, which will include, on premise labs, books and etc to help get certifications and to help those in pursuit of their CCNA, CCNP etc.

Role :

The Network Integration tech 1 will provide physical installation of wireless access points and controllers at school locations throughout Las Vegas. This is to upgrade the solutions so that each school is ready to support the 1 to 1 initiative; 1 tablet per 1 student. They will also be providing de- installation and re- install in older schools and brand new installs as well.

Top Skills Details

(1) 2 years experience installing network devices; this team is installing and de-installing wireless access points primarily. They are also working with network hardware such as switches and servers. CCSD is asking Vision to handle more responsibilities / skill level so that is why Vision would like find people that are blended. They use a variety of equipment manufacturers such as Cisco, Brocade, and Ruckus.

(2)Exp. working with cabling; specifically cat 5 and cat 6; the devices are all IP based, so the physical layer is very important. Working with cabling and understanding how to install it is crucial.

(3) Exp. with documentation in a ticketing system and excel spreadsheets for reporting; they are using a CA system. Documentation is a huge area for them since they are currently looking for process improvements and this is a key area for them to avoid redundancy in work. This way they can trace back to root cause analysis of previous issues.

Additional Information

The individual will need to be at the school locations throughout the valley. The locations change daily / weekly but the individual is just responsible to get to and from the school location each day. It is not a traveling position in between multiple schools each day (if this happens, the contractor is eligible for mileage reimbursement). It breaks down to a normal commute since some schools will be close to the persons home and some will be further away, but it averages out.

They are working Swing Shifts - 4 - 10 hour days, one team is M-Th and the other is T-Fr. This can vary and the person needs to be 100 % flexible. We have had people say they are good with this and after a few months they are no longer into it and end up leaving. This is a hot topic right now. Sell the 4 10 hour shift schedule.

 

External Communities Job Description

Providing network device installs and swap outs at different school locations locally in the Las Vegas area. Mainly working with WAP\'s (wireless access points).

Work Environment

Working in ceilings of the classrooms and throughout school locations.

Impact to the Internal/External Customer

In having the proper team to support the end users; the end users are able to complete tasks and projects without any down time. This makes the entire CCSD employee base more efficient and able to focus on mission critical projects.

 

Business Challenge

Vision needs to have the appropriate number of employees with CCSD to support this contract. If they do not have the appropriate number of employees to provide support on these deployments, then they can ultimately lose $$. They are growing this team and will ultimately grow the revenue that Vision is making off of CCSD yearly. If they do not get people into these spots then they will loose money and and not be able to support their client, which could put them at risk of losing the contract when it comes back around for renewal.
