Job Summary This position exists to perform inspections, active remediation work, conduct methane gas and other site monitoring, coordinate contractor mowing/brush/tree removal, review contractor invoices and participate in contractor appraisals, conduct appropriate site maintenance, and assist other Closed Landfill Program staff and contractors in site investigations, survey and other response actions at assigned closed landfills.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in an environmental protection/ science area
and two years of professional experience performing remedial investigations
OR
Three years professional-level landfill operation and maintenance experience.
AND the ability to:
Independently complete assignments in a timely manner.
Understanding of the environmental regulatory process and procedures.
Engage and communicate with diverse stakeholders and team members.
Possess a valid Driver's license (see additional requirements).
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency will not sponsor applicants for work visas. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of federal, state and local environmental laws, rules, regulations and standards.
Experience with air and water quality, hazardous waste or stormwater regulations, energy efficiency, environmental best management practices or pollution prevention issues.
Experience working with diverse communities.
Customer service skills and abilities.
Experience working in teams and experience with conflict resolution.
Experience working with the operation and maintenance of landfill gas extraction systems. This includes enclosed ground flare stations, gas extraction wells, condensate/leachate, pumps, gas probes, and landfill covers.
Experience with landfill gas meters for readings on flare, gas probes, gas vents and gas extraction wells. This includes calibration and downloading data off the meter.
Strong problem-solving skills for issues related to landfill gas extraction systems and equipment used onsite.
Physical Requirements The incumbent will be required to visit field sites that may have rough terrain.
Additional Requirements A driver's license is an essential function of this position. This requires possession of an unrestricted Class D Driver's License. The job offer is contingent on confirmation of a valid driver's license AND a satisfactory DLR check.
Requires a Class D driver's License: a single unit vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of less than 26,000 pounds. This is a basic driver's license. Operators may also tow vehicles/trailers as long as the gross combination weight does not exceed 26,000 pounds.
